*First announcement: EADI Seminar: Promoting Coherence. Tools, mechanism and ways to put coherence into practice.

Organised by ÖFSE and VIDC and in co-operation with EADI, the seminar will examine the question of how to reach a coherent development policy in Europe on 31 March 2006 in Vienna. Details will be posted on the EADI Website in due course.

*11th EADI General Conference - More Session reports

600 development researchers, practitioners and representatives from policy and NGOs met from 21 to 24 September in Bonn at EADI's General Conference discussing the linkages between insecurity and development. All speeches of the plenary sessions and a wealth of papers presented in the parallel sessions can be visited at www.eadi.org/gc2005. A conference report is being prepared.

*The CODESRIA General Assembly with the theme "Rethinking African Development: Beyond impasse, towards alternatives" took place in Maputo from 6 to 10 December. The research community was called upon to carry its critique of post-independence Africa development and the mode of insertion of Africa into the global system one step further by presenting detailed and holistic alternatives.
