Annual collaboration workshop of the Ghanaian-German Division of Development Studies
October 13, 2010.
ZEF together with the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) of the University of Ghana organized the annual collaboration workshop taking place from September 27-28, 2010 in Accra, Ghana. The workshop served multiple purposes such as the promotion of the Ghanaian-German Division of Development Studies (GGDDS), the enhancement of institutional networking and the academic exchange. Therefore, high-ranking representatives of relevant programs from all Ghanaian public universities (University of Cape Coast, Kumasi University of Science and Technology and the University of Development Studies) were invited. However, outreach was meant to be even wider and invitations were extended to the excellence centres in Tanzania and South Africa. The local representative of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) took also actively part in the workshop. In order to spark discussions over potential areas of collaboration both divisions of the Ghanaian-German Centre for Development Studies and Health Research presented their activities. In a second step, all potential partner institutions also shortly introduced their programs. Apart from the public relations and networking aspect, the workshop also served academic purposes. In this regard, two sessions with academic presentations on poverty and on land tenure were held. At the end of the two-day workshop, another lively discussion of the potential of cooperation within Ghana and in between centres of excellence ensued. The workshop was rated a full success and the GGDDS got excellent feedback from the various parties involved in the workshop.
