How environmental fiscal reforms can contribute to development policies and eradication of poverty
ZEF online colloquium November 12, 2020
Development policies with the aim to eradicatepoverty often lack sufficient financing for effective implementation. In addition, environmental problems often hit the poorest hardest. The two major elements of an Environmental Fiscal Reform (EFR) can contribute to the simultaneous solution of both: By abolishing environmentally harmful subsidies and by introducing environmentally-related taxes both challenges can be addressed and partly solved. This is part of the 2015 Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development (FfD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)/Agenda 2030.
