Public Lecture on the occasion of the annual meeting of ZEF’s International Advisory Board on September 14, 2016 with:

Prof. Dr. Holm Tiessen, Director, Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), Uruguay, on „Translating science into action“.

Abstract:

Fifty years ago, there were less than half as many people on earth as today, there was no economic superpower in Asia, India was suffering famines, the worlds globalization and global change did not exist. In contrast to that real world, most academic institutions have changed very little in that half century. ZEF is an effort to accommodate within German academia an interdisciplinary and development oriented approach that can respond to public and policy concerns of a changed world, and that reaches out to many countries under development. The <link http: www.iai.int>IAI was created to fund and direct science that links to global change and policy across many research institutions of the American Continent. What can be learned from the past 20 years of IAI’s experiences, but also those of ZEF, and how their different but perhaps complementary approaches to connecting science and action faired?
