Lecture by Nnimmo Bassey (Laureate of the “Alternative Nobel Prize” and Director of Health of Mother Earth Foundation) on "Education as the key to environmental protection and human rights?" organized by Right Livelihood College (RLC) at the Center for Development Research (ZEF) in cooperation with VHS Bonn and the Office of International Affairs and Global Sustainability.
Education for sustainable development aims to enable people to shape their living environment in a sustainable way. It aims to promote participation as well as future-oriented thinking and action, i.e. the key competencies for the development of societies.
Nnimmo Bassey, who was awarded the so-called Alternative Nobel Prize, the Right Livelihood Award, in 2010 for his inspiring work in strengthening the environmental movement, uses the example of Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa to examine what education and science can achieve in the face of resource conflicts and threats to democracy, and to what extent concepts discussed globally can be shaped locally.
