August 29, 2023 | 13:30 h - 14:30 h

We would like to invite you to a ZEF Public Lecture on August 29, 2023, in room 1.049 (for ZEF colleagues only) at 01:30 PM (CEST) per Zoom.

Speaker: Dr. Juan Pablo Rodríguez, Associate Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia).

Topic: The role of the water-sensitive city concept in building urban resilience and climate change adaptation. A look from a developing city.

The lecture will be held in hybrid mode, so you are also welcome to join us online via Zoom: https://uni-bonn.zoom.us/meeting/register/u5AldOmtpzwoEtHub_CMeznmPyFzO1M4lO1G

Abstract:

Cities are ecosystems of high complexity that integrate several sub-systems (i.e., social, ecological, economic, physical, and political) with interdependent, multiscale energy and matter cycles. It has been identified that urban areas play a pivotal role in achieving sustainable development as they are capable of mitigating long-term negative environmental effects. Nevertheless, poor multidimensional management may exacerbate them. This presentation will outline the water-sensitive city concept and present a multiscale methodology for consolidated urban areas that allows for the analysis of environmental, social, and economic aspects of sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) implementation. The proposed methodology was coupled with a multi-objective optimization technique to minimize runoff, maximize ecosystem services (e.g., water quality improvement and amenity provision), and minimize costs.

Biography:
