Abstract:
Global carbon markets are often promoted as a superior pathway towards a low-carbon future both in terms of cost effectiveness and environmental effectiveness. The presentation will provide a skeptical view on global markets as the preferred policy option, based on lessons drawn from sociological research on the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) and on a reflection of the problem of integrating developing countries into global carbon markets.
