Indus River - ecological and human aspects
February 4, 2013 | 17:30 h - 19:00 h
Water Lecture with Matthias Winiger, Professor of Geography at the University of Bonn.
The Hindukush-Karakorum-Himalaya Mountain range is one of the largest cryospheric (water in solid form) repositories outside of the polar regions. Its melting water discharges into the Indus River which is the main source of water resources for 1.3 billion people. The lecture stresses the need for reliable data to ensure a balanced and effective use of cryospheric resources in the face of climate change.
