World Water Day on Water Cooperation: Challenges and opportunities

The World Water Day is held annually on March 22 to emphasize the relevance of fresh water and to promote the sustainable management of freshwater resources. Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of water. This year's focus is on "international water cooperation".

 

At this Water Lecture, a panel consisting of high-level experts from government and UN agencies will discuss various forms of water cooperation as well as potential challenges and opportunities of water cooperation at different levels and settings. The discussion will focus on the impacts of water cooperation on capacity development and knowledge exchange.

 

Panelists:

Sergio Zelaya, Coordinator of Policy for Advocacy on Global Issues, United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)

Heide Jekel, Head of Division Cooperation in international river basins at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU)

Ben van de Wetering, Secretary General of International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine (ICPR)
