The Center for Development Research (ZEF) through the Program of Accompanying Research on Agricultural Innovation (PARI) https://research4agrinnovation.org/  has collaborated with the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) (https://aercafrica.org/) since 2019 with the objective of supporting and advancing research and graduate training that informs economic policies, contribute to sustainable agricultural growth, and food and nutrition security in Africa.
PARI primarily provides support to students and members of the faculty through AERC’s three delivery mechanisms, namely; Faculty research, Master’s thesis research and PhD thesis research grants in several universities across Africa. Faculty Research is conducted by faculty members of network universities of the AERC Training Program on themes of current interest in the field of Agriculture and Applied Economics. Thesis research (MSc and PhD) are conducted by graduate students of the AERC Collaborative postgraduate programs (Collaborative Masters in Agricultural and Applied Economics (CMAAE), Collaborative Masters in Economics (CMAP), Collaborative PhD in Economics (CPP) or by students enrolled in PhD in Agricultural Economics.
To date, ZEF-AERC collaboration has provided 15 MSc thesis grants, 5 PhD thesis grants and 11 Faculty research grants (at different stages of completion) on various thematic areas such as inputs use in agriculture; digitalization in agriculture, food and nutrition; employment opportunities in agricultural value chain; enhancing opportunities for the youth in the rural economy; innovations in livestock and livestock products in Africa.
The purpose of this seminar is to highlight some of the research findings from the network of students supported by PARI through AERC and from students working on similar or related topics at ZEF. Specifically, this seminar will highlight series of papers in the following four thematic areas: agri-food value chain development, youth opportunities in rural areas, innovations in livestock value chains and input use and institutions.
