ZEF has one more "Privatdozent" at Bonn University.

December 04, 2014.

ZEF-director Anna-Katharina Hornidge gave her inaugural talk as a "Privatdozent (PD)" at the Dies Academicus on December 3. Her "habilitation" talk on "Entwicklungsforschung" - Von der Konstitution einer Disziplin was attended by more than 70 people.

To be eligible for bearing the title of "PD" (to be awarded by a German university) researchers with a doctoral degree have to go through another procedure called "habilitation". Requirements include a written thesis (cumulative work is an option), an oral exam conducted by a university committee and a public talk given by the candidate at the university. After accomplishing this procedure successfully, the candidate receives an official document and may call him or herself Dr. habil., and, if associated to a specific university, PD at this university. A PD is a full member of the University's respective Faculty. The position of PD is comparable to that of Associated Professor in the American university system.
