ZEF-director Joachim von Braun presented a paper on “Refugees and migration – consequences for development policy” at the event "Africa Insight" of the Africa Association (Afrika Verein, Wirtschaft) in Berlin, September 24, 2015.
The <link fileadmin downloads jvb_afrika_und_migration_24-9-15la.pdf download file>paper (in German) focuses on new insights related to economic causes of migration, the need to accelerated actions to improve emergency aid for refugees, and a set of proposed development policy actions, including education support, productive use of remittances, employment policy, agriculture, as well as development considerations for a German and European immigration law.
Von Braun emphasized the development opportunities related to migration; he stressed that migration is part of development that needs special attention also by the business communities in Europe and Africa.
