Slovak Republic: Social Accounting Matrix, 2000
The 2000 Social Accounting Matrix (SAM <http://www.ifpri.org/data/sams.pdf> ) for the Slovak Republic was prepared by Karol Koronczi of the Graduate School of International Development, Nagoya University, Nagoya, Japan. As the Slovak Republic is in the process of transforming itself from a centrally planned to a market economy as well as integrating itself into the European Union (EU), it is necessary to adjust and standardize the system of national accounts with those utilized in other EU countries. The data construction in this work follows the standard procedures suggested by the United Nations and Eurostat and it converts the supply and use tables into a symmetric input-output table, which is changed into the symmetric SAM. For ordering information, visit www.ifpri.org/data/slovakia01.htm.
FAO Knowledge Forum: Knowledge Exchange and Dialogue to Help Build a World without Hunger
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations' Knowledge Forum provides a gateway to the organization's vast expertise and wealth of knowledge through a series of interactive services. It is an opportunity to learn from and give voice to the agricultural community regarding a wide range of issues affecting food security and agricultural production. For more information, visit www.fao.org/KnowledgeForum/index_en.htm <http://www.fao.org/KnowledgeForum/index_en.htm> .
Doha Development Agenda Trade Capacity Building Database (TCBDB)
TCBDB, established by the World Trade Organization (WTO) jointly with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), provides information on trade-related technical assistance and capacity building projects. It covers national as well as regional projects. The database can be searched by trade category, beneficiary country, donor country, or agency. The statistical analysis option allows quantitative analysis of trade-capacity-building data by these categories. TCBDB objectives are transparency of Trade-Related Technical Assistance (TRTA); exchange and sharing of information; minimization and/or avoidance of duplication; estimation of progress in the implementation of the Doha Mandates on technical cooperation and capacity building; and coordination and coherence. For more information, visit tcbdb.wto.org <http://tcbdb.wto.org/> .
Participatory Communication Strategy Design (PCSD): A Handbook (2nd edition)
This handbook has been prepared by the South African Development Community in collaboration with FAO as a training and reference guide for designing and implementing communication for development strategies in field projects. It outlines how to involve people in decisionmaking processes for effective communication planning and action. The handbook presents a step-by-step methodology for designing a participatory communication strategy and the principles for communication planning, message development, multimedia material production, and the implementation of communication activities in the field. The methodology can be applied to various development projects dealing with agriculture, health, education, income generation, gender, water and sanitation, animal husbandry, and poverty alleviation. For more information, email ComDev@fao.org <mailto:ComDev@fao.org> .
