May 17, 2006.

Green Week Scientific Conference 2007 "Managing Economic, Social and Biological

Transformations", Berlin (Germany), January 17th and 18th, 2007,

-----------------------

First Announcement

Organised by the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Social Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Horticulture, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and ATSAF, Council for Tropical and Subtropical Agricultural Research. The Conference is one of the accompanying Events of the "International Green Week Berlin", Europe's largest Exhibition for the Food Industry, Agriculture and Horticulture. "Managing Economic, Social and Biological Transformations" is the first international conference of the Marie Curie Conferences and Training Courses series MACE (Modern Agriculture in Central and Eastern Europe: Tools for the Analysis and Management of Rural Change)

Objectives of MACE

MACE seeks to enhance the capacity of agricultural research for problem analysis and thus contribute to managing the agricultural modernisation process. It entails a coherent series of conferences, summer schools, and training courses on modern agriculture in CEE, including partners from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, and Slovakia. The series of events will offer unique training opportunities for junior researchers who are challenged by new research needs and shrinking agricultural research institutions.

Conference objectives

The conferences will provide special fora for eligible researchers to build contacts with their peers from across Europe and leading researchers. Young scientists are expected to play an active role at the conference. The first Green Week Scientific Conference will have a systems focus, looking at the rural sector as a whole and examining important factors of change. Natural as well as socio-economic issues will be discussed.

Conferences are closely linked to the summer schools and training courses which will enable junior researchers to gain access to state-of-the-art knowledge and methods, employing a variety of proven and innovative work forms.

Organised within the EU sponsored MACE Programme, this conference will be held annually until 2010. It is intended to continue the event beyond this date by securing additional finances and sponsors.

Participants

Young scientists in post-graduate or post-doctoral studies under 35 years of age from EU, associated, as well as third countries are invited to participate. Young scientists from Central and Eastern European countries are particularly encouraged to apply. Participation of researchers from all agricultural disciplines is envisaged. Financial support for travel and accommodation will be provided for a limited number of applicants. Participants who have played an active role at MACE Summer Schools or Training Courses should also apply.

Call for papers

Applicants are requested to submit two-page abstracts of the proposed paper by June 30th, 2006. Notification on the acceptance of the paper proposal will go out on July 31st. Deadline for submission of full papers is October 15th, 2006.
