NeWater-GWSP Summer School 2008. “Managing Change: Tools and Methods for Adaptive River Basin Management”

The NeWater Project together with the Global Water System Project (GWSP) announce the final in their series of summer schools on the theme of adaptive water management. The 2008 NeWater-GWSP Summer School Series focuses on methods and tools for adaptive river basin management drawn in part from the results of the NeWater Project and, in particular hands-on experiences in processes of change.
TOPICS COVERED
Introduction to basic concepts of Adaptive Management: Processes of change, making management adaptive, developing guidelines etc.
Introduction to Freshwater Ecology
Concepts of Resilience and Adaptive Capacity in River Basins
Systems Dynamics Modeling - conceptual and quantitative
Scenario Analysis of future vulnerability and adaptive capacity in river basins
Participatory Processes - Role of participation, social learning and methods for stakeholder participation
Introduction to the NeWater Web Portal: tools for and training in adaptive water management
Adaptive Management in Practice: Experiences from Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe
Field trip: Adaptive Management in the Rhine Basin: International Commission for Protection of the Rhine (Koblenz)
(followed by dinner on the Rhine)
