March 22 is World Water Day. Water use is one of ZEF’s strategic research topics. The Center is involved in water related research all over the world: in Uzbekistan, ZEF has developed innovative solutions for an improved management of natural resources, including water use. In Vietnam, ZEF is involved in a project investigating water related information systems in the Mekong Delta (WISDOM). In Ethiopia, ZEF cooperates with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in a project on Re-Thinking Water Storage in sub-Saharan Africa. In the Middle Olifants sub-basin of South Africa, ZEF investigates solutions for better Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). For Ghana and Burkina Faso ZEF has provided science-based options for improved water management in the Volta River Basin. As a follow-up, knowledge and technology is being transferred in close cooperation with local stakeholders to the local decision makers.
