ZEF extends capacity building activities in Ghana

The Ghanaian-German Center for <link http: www.zef.de _blank external-link-new-window external link in new>Development Studies (GGCDS) at the University of Ghana, which was etablished by ZEF in collaboration with the Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (<link http: isser.edu.gh _blank external-link-new-window external link in new>ISSER) in 2008, will receive funding for another five years (2014-2018) from its donors, the German Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the German Academic Exchange Service (<link http: www.daad.de _blank external-link-new-window external link in new>DAAD). This decision was made after an intensive and independent evaluation.
Extended cooperation
In the upcoming second phase, the project will reach out to the University of Development Studies (UDS) in northern Ghana and sponsor a total of 35 additional PhD candidates.
The Ghanaian-German Center for Development Studies enables excellent Ghanaian and other African scientists to pursue a PhD in Development Studies in Ghana, organizes summer schools at ZEF, and promotes staff exchange and academic network building between the German and African partners.
In the first phase of the project 23 students have been sponsored, of whom five completed their doctoral studies.
