OECD
Competition Division
2 Senior Experts in Competition Policy
The OECD is looking for two Senior Experts to work on a
major policy initiative in Mexico that applies competition
policy to governmental regulation and helps develop new
policies in many parts of the economy.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
As part of a co-operative project between the OECD and the
Mexican government, they will be key members of a 12-person
team of experts associated with Mexico's independent
competition authority, the Federal Competition Commission
(CFC). The team, based in Mexico, will work directly with
the Chairman of the CFC to develop proposals to eliminate
unnecessary restrictions of competition in various laws and
regulations. The CFC's proposals will be at the core of a
Presidential effort to develop new policies to increase the
competitiveness of the Mexican economy. A variety of
sectors will be covered.
The two OECD experts on the Competition Team will be OECD
employees, working as full-time members of their team in
Mexico City but ultimately reporting to and supervised by
the Competition Division in Paris. In addition, the Senior
Experts will be responsible for using their experience to
revise, update and improve the OECD's Competition
Assessment Toolkit, an important element of the Competition
Committee's programme of work.
The positions would be subject to standard OECD hiring
processes and salary would be determined according to
standard OECD scale for Mexico. Base salary would range
between 978 and 1.3m pesos, depending on the applicant's
background, plus other standard OECD benefits.
The start date would be as soon as possible and positions
would run for at least one year or longer (up to the end of
2009) depending on the successful candidate's availability
and interest. The Mexican Government hopes that the project
will be able to continue through 2011, but continuation
will depend upon results from the first two years of
operation.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidates would likely have advanced
degrees in microeconomics or law and extensive practical
policy-oriented professional experience. Experience working
in a teamwork environment would be valuable.
Spanish language competency is desirable, but not
essential.
ABOUT THE OECD:
The Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development
(OECD) is an international organisation with more than 2000
employees. The OECD is a unique forum where the governments
of 30 market democracies work together to address the
economic, social and governance challenges of the
globalising world economy, as well as to exploit its
opportunities.
The Competition Division focuses on sharing best practices
on the application of competition policy and law among both
member and non-member governments.
