ZEF Alumna Denise Matias won the first Innovation Prize at the 5th Annual ISTF in Yale

ZEF alumna Denise Matias was awarded the Yale ISTF Innovation Prize for the pioneering approach of her doctoral research project. The jury commended her for her collaboration with the local Tagbanua community in the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve Palawan in the Philippines. Her transdisciplinary approach sought to understand the complexity of the social-ecological system in the forest landscape. Ms. Matias’s work was supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) via a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and by research funds from the Foundation fiat panis.
