Pallavi Rajkhowa received second prize of KfW award for her doctoral dissertation

ZEF Senior Researcher Dr. Pallavi Rajkhowa from India received the second prize of the award “Förderpreis für praxisrelevante Entwicklungsforschung” by the KfW and the Verein für Socialpolitik for her doctoral dissertation on “Personalized digital extension services, electronic marketplace, and mobile phones: Implications for rural development in India”. The prize is awarded to scientists whose doctoral theses combine technical excellence and practical relevance. The award ceremony took place on June 9, 2022.
The selection committee awarded her thesis for “determining the various developmental potentials of digitalization in India”. The findings of Pallavi’s thesis suggest “that personalized digital consulting services for small farmers help to increase yields and lead to the diversification of production. Furthermore, the access to mobile phones improves job opportunities outside of the agricultural sector and it can also help enhance gender equality (…)”.
